HSD – iRobot Corporation $IRBT

Hot stock of the day on December 17th was iRobot Corporation (IRBT). iRobot jumped 17.13%. This was due to two reasons; the first is the news that Google (GOOG) has been buying up robotics companies all over the place, the second is the Raymond James upgrade to strong buy with a price target of $39.

iRobot’s headquartered in Bedford, MA. iRobot designs, develops, and markets robots for the consumer, government, and industrial markets worldwide. It offers consumer products, including floor vacuuming and washing robots, floor sweeping robots, and pool and gutter cleaning robots. However, what seems to be the more important part of the company for this pop off is that they provide defense and security products. Some of which include; ground robots comprising 510 PackBot line of small unmanned ground robots, the 310 small unmanned ground vehicle (SUGV) and XM1216 SUGV multi-purpose ground robots, the 110 FirstLook small, light, and throwable robot, and the 710 Warrior multi-purpose robot for carrying heavy payloads.

International Business Machines – $IBM

Today’s stock pick of the day is International Business Machines (IBM). IBM has been a strong company for years. They have been shifting their focus over the years, even leaving some people saying what does IBM even do now?

Well, “the company’s Global Technology Services segment provides IT infrastructure and business process services, including outsourcing, process, integrated technology, and technology support. Its Global Business Services segment offers consulting solutions for strategy and transformation, application innovation, enterprise applications, and smarter analytics; and application management, maintenance, and support services. The company’s Software segment offers middleware and operating systems software, such as WebSphere software to integrate and manage business processes; information management software for database and enterprise content management, information integration, data warehousing, performance management business analytics and intelligence, and data analytics; Tivoli software for cloud and datacenter management, enterprise endpoint and mobile device management, asset and facilities management, storage management, and security systems; Lotus Software to connect people and processes for communication; rational software to support software development in IT and embedded systems; and operating systems software. Its Systems and Technology segment provides computing power and storage solutions; and semiconductor technology, products, and packaging solutions.”

We believe that IBM is positioned to do very well in the coming years. With the products that they provide, and technology moving in the direction that it is, they will be poised to do very well. The pullback over the previous year have them as a serious value play now. They give a 2.14% dividend and their earnings are still growing. They will more than likely see upside to the $200 mark again, over the course of 2014.
